워싱턴의 진보 라디오 방송국에서 문재인 대통령 방미 관련 인터뷰 요청이 들어 왔다. 평화 협정 없이 67년 진행중인 한국 전쟁 종식 한반도 평화 기원, 미국이 문재인 대통령의 평화 이니셔티브 지지할 것을 호소했다.
다음은 인터뷰 요점.
1) 미국의 영리 언론이 문재인 대통령이 마치 트럼프의 대북 강경론에 항복한 것 같은 보도를 하는 것은 옳지 않다. 80% 넘는 한국 국민들은 문재인 대통령을 지지하고 남북한 외교를 지지한다. 미국내에서도 최근 10만명이 넘는 미국인들 및 6명의 전직 고위 외교관들이 트럼프에 북미 외교를 촉구하는 서한을 보냈다.
2) 문재인 대통령은 후보때 부터 지속적으로 남북한 교류 외교를 강조했으며, 그 정책에 변함이 없다.
3) 평화 협정 없이 67년 동안 지속되는 한국 전쟁은 전 세계 현대사에서 가장 긴 전쟁이며 한민족에게 고통과 비극, 아픔을 주고 있다. 67년 동안 사랑하는 가족들과 생이별 한 이산 가족들의 애환(哀歡), 평화 협정 없이 늘 전쟁 상태, 전쟁 게임에 시달려야 하는 한반도에 평화 정착은 절실하다.
4) 문재인 대통령과 트럼프 대통령이 임기 초반에 북한과 외교를 통해 평화 로드맵을 구축한다면 임기내 5년, 8년 동안 착실하게 정책을 실행할 기회를 가질수 있다. 예를 들어, 김대중 대통령의 햇볕 정책은 임기 말년에 실행했기 때문에 미국 부시 행정부 출범과 함께 지속적인 추진에 실패 했다.
5) 북한이 고향인 부모를 둔 문재인 대통령도 67년 한국 전쟁의 비극의 산 증인이다.
6) 남북한은 스텝 바이 스텝 착실하게 남북한 교류 정책을 실시하고 신뢰를 쌓아 가면서 반드시 평화 협정을 성취해야 한다.
7) 한반도 평화는 동북 아시아 및 전 세계에 영향을 주는 중대사이다.

I kindly share my own humble contribution to this historic and epic journey for peace in the Korean peninsula, Northeast Asia and the world: my interview with a Washington-based progressive radio program, "Loud and Clear with Brian Becker" (see #5). Please help us!
1. Brother Marinus. Military mission of mercy that saved 14,000 souls
On the morning of Christmas Day, all the refugees were shuttled ashore by two US navy tank-landing craft. No one was killed or even badly hurt; and the total put ashore exceeded the number loaded at Hungnam by five healthy babies born during the epic voyage. "God's own hand was at the helm of my little ship," LaRue recalled. The deeply religious, Philadephia-born seaman commanded the Meredith Victory until she was taken out of service in 1952. The US Congress designated her a "gallant ship" and LaRue was awarded American and South Korean honours. The mission of mercy, which brought forth the US Maritime Administration's "greatest-ever" plaudit, reinforced LaRue's long-standing vocation, and he joined the Benedictine order in 1954. He died at St Paul's Abbey in Newton, New Jersey, leaving no close relatives. Today, President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea will recognize Marines of the Korean War with a wreath-laying at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. President Moon’s parents were able to flee to safety after the 1st Marine Division drove the enemy back, allowing the Hungnam Evacuation of 1950. Three years later, the future president was born.
