“北에 외교특사 보내라” 45개국 300명 여성지도자

Americans oppose Trump's threat to North Korea!

Women Cross DMZ. Women interrupt war: 300 global women leaders from 45 countries

Immediately appoint a Special envoy to de-escalate the Korean conflict to encourage dialogue, compromise and the peaceful resolution of tensions. Past Secretaries-General, Kofi Annan and Boutros Boutros-Ghali, initiated peace processes for the Korean Peninsula. Given the well-documented fact of women peacemakers’ significant impact towards reaching peace settlements, a high-level intervention of women mediators is needed now to avert war”

Friendan update and appeal for peace. We wish to win the hearts and minds of American people for peace in Asia! Please help us!

· 62% of Americans don’t trust Trump to handle North Korea responsibly.

· On 9/23, the United States--for the first time since Korean War--sent several B-1B bombers launched from the U.S. Pacific island territory of Guam, Okinawa, Japan to international waters off North Korea’s coast, the farthest north of the DMZ any U.S. fighter or bomber aircraft had. There was no participation from South Korea. It was a unilateral provocation by the United States to entire Northeast Asia and a direct challenge to South Korean President Moon Jae-in who pledged NEVER to allow another war in the Korean Peninsula. If North Korea had reacted to American show of force, Northeast Asia would be in a war NOW!

· The unilateral military show of force by the United States is against the will of majority of Americans. According to the latest poll by Washington Post, close to 70% of Americans (Republicans and Democrats) oppose preemptive strike against North Korea.

· Japan’s Abe whose father committed war crime under a fascist and imperialist Japan (the only country that attacked the US) is now emerging as a “spoiler role in the psychodrama of North Korea’s policy” for his personal political ambition.

· Koreans are deeply concerned about Moon Jae-in's "dancing to Trump's drumbeat of war": South Korean President Moon Jae-in abandoned Korea’s candlelight revolution that mandated engagement and diplomacy with North Korea by not standing up the hardline policy and “open American threats”. More than 80% of Koreans demand diplomacy and engagement with North Korea.

· A 58-year-old Korean self-immolated in his desperate appeal for President Moon not to abandon the spirit of Korea’s candlelight revolution, peace and diplomacy.

So what exactly is the “crisis” involving North Korea? The answer is simple: We’re not worried that we can’t deter North Korea. We’re worried because a North Korea that can plausibly strike the U.S. with nuclear weapons will likely be able to deter us from doing whatever we want. For example, we might not be able to invade North Korea. So let’s concentrate on the good news: We definitely have it in our power to prevent North Korea from using its nuclear weapons on us. All we have to do is not attack them first. https://theintercept.com/2017/08/14/we-can-stop-north-korea-from-attacking-us-all-we-have-to-do-is-not-attack-them/

But I also believe it is sheer fantasy that the North Koreans are going to wake up one morning and unilaterally disarm, particularly in the face of open American threats. What is concerning about Abe’s speech is that he appears to have President Trump’s ear. He is effectively undercutting President Moon’s standingrecall the appeasement tweet following an Abe-Trump phone call (see my analysis of that embarrassment at the Joongang Daily here(link is external)), contributing to the polarization on the issue in the South.

3. Satoko Oka Norimatsu. What We’re Forgetting in March to War with North Korea

Japan, hand in hand with the biggest nuclear power in the world, continues to threaten North Korea on a daily basis with their military bases and joint military exercises. Through this provocation, they also threaten Russia and China. The U.S. and its allies call their superpower threat “deterrence,” and, by comparison, they call the small and isolated country’s desperate effort to protect their sovereignty “provocation.” Mentions of severe sanctions and military force are made with ease and without any objection. Clearly, the Japanese government, media, and its people do not seem to consider the lives and livelihoods of the people on the Korean Peninsula whether North or South as important or noteworthy. Many experts believe this proposal will open a door for dialogue, but the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley, dismissed the notion outright, calling it “insulting.” That being said, there does not seem to be any serious consideration of this proposal in the Japanese media, either.

Now, more than ever, the media bears a heavy responsibility for preventing war.

4. Ariel Dorfman. The New York Review of books. Nuclear Apocalypse Now?

Seventy-two years ago, the United States launched a pre-emptive nuclear strike against a hated faraway Asian nation. The bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, which killed some 146,000 men, women, and childrenand the subsequent devastation of Nagasaki, a few days lateropened a new era for humanity. Not one of hope or progress, but of the very real possibility of annihilation of most life on Earth.

As President John F. Kennedy said following the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis: “Above all, while defending our own vital interests, nuclear powers must avert those confrontations which bring an adversary to the choice of either a humiliating defeat or a nuclear war.”

Now is the time to back away from edge of a conflict that could escalate to the nuclear level all too quickly.

6. Lawyers Committee on Nuclear Policy and Western States Legal Foundation. Threats of Total Destruction Are Unlawful and Extremely Dangerous; Direct Diplomacy between the United States and North Korea Is Essential to Avert Disaster

Accordingly, the United States should declare itself ready and willing to engage in direct talks with North Korea, and a commitment to denuclearization should not be a precondition for such talks. To facilitate negotiations, the United States and South Korea should immediately cease large-scale military exercises in the region, providing North Korea with an opportunity to reciprocate by freezing its nuclear-related testing activities. The immediate aim of negotiations should be a non-aggression pact, as a step toward a comprehensive peace treaty bringing permanent closure to the Korean War and providing for a nuclear-weapon-free Korean peninsula. Success in denuclearizing the Korean peninsula will be much more likely if the United States, Russia, China and other nuclear-armed states also engage, as they are obligated to do, in negotiations for a world free of nuclear weapons.

7. Loud and Clear. Trump at the UN: Is the World Trembling or Laughing?

On today’s episode of Loud & Clear, Pepe Escobar, a writer and political analyst, Prof. Simone Chun, a fellow at the Korea Policy Institute and author and columnist Patrick Lawrence, join the show.

Key points:

Trump’s "carnage doctrine" is Axis of Evil part 2.

Trump’s threat to destroy entire North Korea is a threat to all people in Northeast Asia, including 70 million Koreans, 150, 000 Americans living in South Korea, 28,000 American soldiers stationed in South Korea, and all people in Northeast Asia. Look at the map and see if it is possible to destroy ONLY North Korea.

The United States dropped A-bombs on civilians in Japan, not once but twice. It is not the word but the action of the US that people in the world should pay attention to. https://www.spreaker.com/user/radiosputnik/trump-at-the-un-is-the-world-trembling-o_1

8. Experts: Seoul’s Decapitation plan to kill Kim Jong-un a Huge Disappointment”

Moon was "the architect of the sunshine policy engagement," Chun told Radio Sputnik’s Loud & Clear, "so it is a huge disappointment." nevertheless, Chun said the formation of Spartan 3000 isn’t "totally unexpected" since "South Korea is a subordinate partner to US foreign policy especially in North East Asia I still have to mention that many Koreans, even the high ranking foreign policy advisers, are shocked by the move toward hardline rhetoric, so we really need to be careful about that."

9. The Hankyoreh. Moon exhibits contradictory behavior during his visit to UN

About Trump's belligerent speech to the UN a day earlier, in which he promised to "totally destroy North Korea," Moon said, “It was a very powerful speech. I believe that kind of strong approach is certain to bring about change in North Korea.” This amounts to dancing to the beat of Trump's drum.

Mr. President, I pray and hope that you don’t take the candlelight with uncertainty, but as it initially was, push ahead with the strength that comes with success and set a path for the world to remember. I hope for your health. If you are a member of the candlelight revolution, you know that you are worthy and qualified to do anything and everything that anyone else could. http://davidswanson.org/south-korean-self-immolates-demands-u-s-thaad-weapons-be-kept-out-of-korea/
