신부님께서 차량 밑으로 누워서 절규(絶叫)해야 하는 처절함과 500명은 시민들의 절규속에서 유유히 점령하는 미군들 경호하는 한국 경찰을 보면서 이것이 주권 대한민국인가, 지금이 2017년인가 의심하게끔 합니다.

500 heroic and courageous Korean villagers and peace activists for peace!
Friend—I am sorry to bother you with this on a beautiful Sunday. Please comfort, give hopes to and solidarity with 500 Korean villagers who on September 7 withstood a 10-hour-long battle with 8000 Korean police and US army (see details below) to fight for all of us: peace in Asia and the world!
They didn’t win this time but they have shown us the meaning of true courage!
Democracy is people’s weapon—far more powerful than THAAD, ICBM or nuke!
500 heroic and courageous Korean villagers and peace activists: 10-hour-long protest to defend their homes and peace in Northeast Asia: STOP THAAD!
•8000 police against 500 farmers, Buddhist monks and nuns, Catholic priests and nuns, workers, students, villagers and many elderly women, many chained themselves to trucks and attempted to block the deployment
•No female police force present in spite of many elderly and women protesters
•Male police handled female protesters
•Police dragged elderly women by hair and dragged them, while saying, “be careful”, and twisting fingers of grandmothers
•Police destroyed tents that activists set up
•Female protesters trouser and underwear were torn, but police did nothing
•Police forced Father Moon Kyu-hyun 문규현 신부님 who went under the truck to stop the police in order to protect female protesters. Father Moon who has a pacemaker device for his heart trouble suffered.
•Police applied extreme force to religious leaders
•Police did not clean up enormous trash that they generated, and Sosungri was littered with several tonnes of garbage left by police
•Police destroyed melon farms
•President Moon defended the terror against unarmed civilians for national security and went hiking on Saturday with his dog
To sum up, the raid was an act of terror on unarmed civilian peaceful protesters by American army and South Korean government, violated Korea’s constitutional laws, civil liberties, democratic procedures, and universal human rights.

Thousands of police and protesters are facing off in the South Korean village of Seongju just hours ahead of the deployment of four new U.S.-operated THAAD rocket launchers. Brian is joined by Prof. Simone Chun, a fellow at the Korea Policy Institute and a member of the Korean Peace Network; as well as Will Griffin, a member of the Task Force to Stop THAAD in Korea and Militarism in Asia and the Pacific.
Simone Chun: “The forceful deployment of THAAD is disgraceful and travesty…due to America’s strategy of escalation, instead of peaceful solution regarding North Korea. President Moon could have used his political capital (80% of support from Korean people) to swiftly postpone the deployment of THAAD. President Moon should be accountable and responsible for the mistake that he made.”
Will Griffin: “Previously, there was no US military presence in the village. No US soldiers. They don’t want military escalation.”

4. Zoom in Korea. USFK Install THAAD Launchers in Seongju after an Eight-hour Confrontation between Residents and S Korean Police
The residents of Seongju vow to continue their fight to reverse the THAAD deployment. The village leader of Soseong-ri announced:
We — Seongju, Gimcheon residents and Won Buddhists — will not be discouraged even though the four THAAD launchers made their way into the deployment site. The THAAD is a weapon of war. We will continue the fight for peace knowing that it could take five or even ten years.
