911 테러 참사 10주기인 올해 희생자들을 기리는 성조기 3천개가 그라운드 제로 인근 공원에 내걸린다.
뉴욕시 메모리얼 필드에 마련되는 이들 성조기엔 각각 희생자의 이름이 쓰여지며 사람 키보다 약간 높은 7.5 피트의 높이에 걸려 희생자의 이름을 쉽게 볼 수 있도록 만들어진다.

성조기 게양 프로젝트를 고안한 좐 미췔로티 씨는 “10주기를 맞는 9월 11일 메모리얼 필드(추모공원)엔 희생자 유가족들의 입장만 허용돼 다른 추모객들에도 방문할 곳이 필요하다는 생각에서 메모리얼 필드 계획을 추진했다”고 밝혔다.

Nearly 3,000 flags bearing the names of 9/11 victims will go up in a park near ground zero for the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
John Michelotti, a former engineer from Greenwich, Conn., came up with the idea. He says NYC Memorial Field will be open Sept. 8-12. Only victims' families will have access to the new 9/11 memorial on Sept. 11.
Michelotti wants others to have a place to reflect on the tragic events. The flags will be mounted on 7 1/2-foot poles, low enough for visitors to hold and read the names. Michelotti has previously displayed several hundred flags in Battery Park.
He says the city parks department has granted a permit for the flags. A message for the agency wasn't immediately returned.

코네티컷에 거주하는 미첼로티 씨는 직업이 엔지니어다. 이번 깃발 프로젝트를 뉴욕시 공원국이 승인했다고 밝힌 그는 보다 많은 이들이 9.11 희생자들을 기릴 수 있기를 희망했다.
