潘총장 “UN과 로마교황청 공조기대” 새 교황에 축전

반기문 UN 사무총장은 13일 프란치스코 1세의 교황 선출을 축하하는 메시지를 발표했다.

반 총장은 새로운 교황의 선출을 맞이하여 세계 모든 카톨릭 신자들에게 가슴에서 우러나오는 축하를 전한다고 말하고 “프란시스코 1세의 영도아래 로마교황청과 UN이 더욱 굳건한 협조를 할 수 있기를 희망한다”고 말했다.

이어 “UN 과 로마교황청은 가난과 기아를 막고 평화와 사회정의, 인권의 증진이라는 공통의 목적을 나누고 있다”면서 “긴밀한 대화를 통하여 오늘의 세계가 맞닥뜨린 도전과제를 풀어나갈 수 있을 것”이라고 기대했다.

반 총장은 “프란시스코 1세가 문명의 화합을 위해 종교와 종파를 초월한 대화에 힘썼던 베네딕토 16세의 뜻을 이어나갈 것을 믿는다”고 말했다.
