뉴욕의 16세 한인여고생이 한 겨울 파자마 차림으로 집을 나선 후 닷새째 실종(失踪) 상태에 있어 경찰이 공개 수사에 나섰다.
NBC와 뉴스12 등 미 언론은 6일 뉴욕주 웨스트체스터 카운티에 사는 크리스틴 강(16) 양이 지난 2일 오후 8시30분경 부모와 말다툼을 하고 집을 나간 이후 지금까지 연락이 닿지 않고 있다고 일제히 보도했다.
강 양은 초록색 얇은 티셔츠에 하의는 파자마를 입었고 어그부츠를 신은 상태였다. 휴대폰과 돈도 없이 집을 나선 강양은 이날 밤 10시20분경 인근 스카스데일 역 플랫폼의 CCTV에서 추운듯 팔짱을 낀 채 움추린 모습이 확인됐다.
웨스트체스터 경찰은 실종 신고 접수후 지난 주말 강양의 친구들과 주민들을 접촉하고 타운 일대를 탐색견(探索犬)과 헬리콥터까지 동원해 수색했으나 아무런 소득을 얻지 못했다. 강 양이 개학한 5일에도 학교에 나타나지 않으면서 경찰은 공개 수사로 전환했다.
이어 강 양이 실종된 날 밤 메트로노스 종점인 맨해튼 그랜드센트럴역에 하차한 후 렉싱턴 애버뉴를 걷는 모습이 목격됐다는 제보가 6일 접수됨에 따라 뉴욕시경(NYPD)은 물론, 메트로폴리탄교통공사(MTA)와 항만청(PA) 경찰과도 협조체제를 구축하고 나섰다.
경찰은 강 양이 뉴욕 시내의 CCTV들에 촬영됐을 가능성이 있다고 보고 이들 자료를 분석하는 한편, 목격자들의 제보(提報)를 당부하고 있다. 제보 전화 914-989-1700.

Girl, 16, Missing From NY Home Was Wearing Pajamas, No Coat: Cops
Police looking for a 16-year-old Edgemont girl missing for three days have turned up video surveillance of her boarding a southbound Metro-North Railroad train Friday night, officials said.
Christine Ji Woo Kang was seen standing on a Scarsdale train platform and then boarding a train bound for Grand Central Terminal around 10:18 p.m., police said. They are working with Metropolitan Transportation Authority police on where she disembarked from the train, Greenburgh police Capt. Brian Ryan said Monday night.
Earlier in the day and over the weekend, police used tracking dogs and a helicopter to search for Kang. Officers also went to Edgemont Junior-
Senior High School to talk to classmates who might know what happened to her, officials said.
Kang left her home after a "minor" disagreement with a parent about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Greenburgh police Chief Chris McNerney said in a Monday afternoon news conference held to publicize the disappearance and solicit tips from the public.
Kang didn't appear to have taken anything with her other than the clothes she was wearing, though police said they are still investigating – including searching the family home. Kang in the past has left the house to "cool off" for a couple hours before returning home but never has run off for this long, family members told police.

"She's left home in the past after arguing with her parents, always returning after short periods of time," Greenburgh Lt. Michael D'Alessio said. "The concern this time, it's been 72 hours and she wasn't dressed to be outside for a extended period of time."
Temperatures since she left home have dropped into the 30s. The teen, who stands 5-feet-6, was without a coat, wearing only light-colored pajama pants, a green shirt and Ugg boots.
There's no evidence she has been hurt but she's classified as a "missing endangered juvenile," D'Alessio said.
D'Alessio said police have searched her Robin Hill Road neighborhood and spoken to neighbors, friends and relatives. Kang had lived in Connecticut with her parents and another sibling before the family moved to Greenburgh in the past couple years, police said.
McNerney sent an email letter to residents in the Edgemont area calling Kang a runaway and asking for the public's help finding her. The chief told parents in the email that the high school junior left home on "her own accord" and said "there's no reason to believe that the community is at risk."
D'Alessio said his understanding is the teenager is healthy, adding that she's been described as a "well-rounded student."
School counselors and psychologists are available for Edgemont students, the school district said.
