비빔밥을 세계에 알리는 청년 단체 '비빔밥 유랑단' 5기 단원들이 푸드트럭을 장착한 채 캘리포니아를 중심으로 한식 건강 캠페인 '당신의 비빔밥으로 시작하세요(BEGIN YOUR BIBIMBAP)'을 전파하고 있다.
비빔밥 유랑단의 푸드트럭은 지난 16일 캘리포니아 어바인에서 열린 제6회 한국문화축제 현장에서 약 600명에게 비빔밥을 전달했다.
7천여명의 방문객중 60% 가량이 외국인이라는 점에서 비빔밥 트럭은 그 존재만으로도 한국 음식문화를 알리는 견인차가 되었다. 강상균 단장과 송영욱(29) 팀장, 최병환(28) 기장, 정재영 임지윤 권여원 김소선(이상 25) 이의종 김선미 문희권(이상 24), 김효경, 장석성(23) 등 12명의 유랑단원은 이날 '한글 이름 써주기' 이벤트도 진행해 시선을 모았다.
행사에 참여한 외국인들은 비빔밥을 먹으려면 어디로 가야 하는지에 대해 묻는가하면 신선한 채소를 기반으로 한 비빔밥을 조리해보고 싶다며 샘플 고추장을 추가로 받아가기도 했다.
'한식'에 '건강 캠페인'을 접목한 비빔밥 유랑단의 '한식 글로벌 마케팅'은 푸드트럭의 도입으로 캠페인의 전파력이 더욱 커질 전망이다. 2016년에는 푸드트럭을 이용해 미국 전역을 돌며 비빔밥을 전파한다는 계획이다.
지난 2011년부터 비빔밥 유랑단의 해외 활동을 지원해온 CJ제일제당은 2012년부터 글로벌 한식 통합 브랜드인 ‘Bibigo’의 이름으로 후원하고 있다. 올해도 비빔밥 유랑단의 6개월간 활동 경비 일체와 시식 행사의 식재료는 물론, 푸드트럭을 제공하고 있다.

'9애버뉴 인터내셔널 푸드페스티벌'은 뉴욕에서 가장 크고 오래된 축제 중 하나이다. 다양한 푸드트럭에서 판매하는 세계음식을 맛보기 위해 매년 20만명의 관광객들이 축제 현장을 찾는다.

Sandwiches, hamburgers, french fries, and other regional fast food fare is common. In recent years, associated with the pop-up restaurant phenomenon, food trucks offering gourmet cuisine and a variety of specialties and ethnic menus, have become particularly popular. Food trucks, along with portable food kiosks and food carts, are on the front line of the street food industry that serves an estimated 2.5 billion people every day.
Food trucks service events (carnivals, construction sites, sporting events etc.) and places of regular work or study – college campuses, office complexes, industrial parks, auto repair shops, movie sets, farmers' markets, military bases, etc. – where regular meals or snacks are in high demand by potential customers. Food truck dining has caught on in several U.S. and Canadian cities including Toronto, Montreal, Hamilton, Vancouver, Washington, D.C., New York, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Calgary, Portland and Tampa.
