뉴욕타임스가 15인의 특색있는 아티스트로 선정한 김기은 작가의 개인전이 9일부터 14일까지 맨해튼 첼시의 ‘뉴욕 스페이스 인 아트 갤러리(SIA NY․ 511 W 20th St. 2nd Fl. 2N. New York)’에서 열린다.
이번 전시는 마리오네트(marionette)의 매커니즘과 어린 나비로 대입된 작가 자신을 추상적인 누에고치 형상에 비춰지는 자아의 표상, 고뇌와 인내를 감성적이고 감각적인 이미지로 표현한 실험적인 비디오 설치작품이다. 작가는 고군분투(孤軍奮鬪)하는 시간과 공간을 통해 자기 정화와 희망적인 표출을 강렬하게 나타내고 있다.
김기은 작가는 뉴욕 파슨스를 졸업한 뒤 회화, 설치, 미디어아트, 그리고 퍼포먼스를 통해 자신만의 깊은 내면을 강렬하게 표현하는 뉴욕의 신예 아티스트로서 성장하고 있다.

Kieun Kim’s first solo exhibition
Space in Arts NY (SIA NY) is pleased to present Kieun Kim’s first solo exhibition with the gallery titled “Revealuxion” opening Thursday, June 9, 2016, 6-8pm, on view through June 14, 2016 at 511 W. 20th St., 2nd Fl., New York, NY 10011. Kieun Kim is one of the fifteen artists selected by the New York Times for the Maker Faire NYC 2015.
This exhibition is a video installation using the shapes and mechanisms inspired by marionettes. She views herself as a young butterfly, through the reflection of chrysalis as a representation of her alter ego, she expresses suffering and patience that is embedded in her artwork.
Kieun Kim is a ground breaking, creative artist and performer. Kim's work has been highly acclaimed as being truly unique and innovative, one of the very few artists today with a tremendous passion and gift for fusing artistic expression with technology.
Her work displays interactive art, installation, physical computing, soft circuits, vital signs and wearable technology. This creativity also demonstrates self-portraits, emotional expressions and the human connection. She aims to focus on interactive healing effects between people on a variety of projects. Kim believes her art is expressed in everything she touches. As her portfolio illustrates, her passion for art is interdisciplinary and expressed across diverse media.
Kieun Kim received her Master of Fine Arts degree in Design and Technology at Parsons School of Design in May 2015. She is currently working on freelance interaction, coding, visual and graphic design.
