유엔본부에서 6일과 7일 오준 유엔 경제사회이사회(ECOSOC) 의장이 주관하는 제1차 ‘지속가능 개발목표를 위한 과학기술혁신 이해관계자 포럼’이 개최됐다.
STI 포럼은 지난해 7월 에티오피아에서 개최된 제3차 개발재원총회 결과문서인 ‘아디스아바바 행동의제(Addis Ababa Action Agenda)’ 및 같은해 9월 유엔총회에서 채택된 ‘2030 의제; 지속가능 개발목표’에 따라 올해 새롭게 출범하는 포럼이다.
ECOSOC 의장 주관으로 매년 2일간 개최되는 포럼은 회원국을 포함한 과학, 기술, 혁신분야 이해관계자간 협력과 네트워크 촉진 및 과학, 기술이 지속가능 개발 목표 이행(移行)에 기여하는 다양한 성공사례 공유 기회를 제공했다.
이번 포럼에서는 회원국, 유엔기구 뿐만 아니라, 학계, 경제계, 시민사회 등 다양한 분야 전문가들의 참석 하에 패널 토의(7회)와 각료급 대화를 통해 지속가능 개발목표 달성 지원을 위한 과학, 기술의 역할과 향후 방향에 관한 폭넓은 논의가 진행됐다.
ECOSOC 의장인 오준 주유엔대사가 개회식과 폐회식을 주재(主宰)한 가운데 개회식에는 반기문 유엔사무총장을 비롯, 카이라트 압드라크마노프(Kairat Abdrakhmanov) 유엔총회 부의장(주유엔 카자흐스탄대사)이 연이어 개회사를 했다.

This session will examine opportunities and challenges at policy, organizational and individual levels for maximizing the contribution of science, technology and innovation to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. It will also highlight how to deploy or incentivize the uptake of existing knowledge and new, innovative solutions and technologies and make them more readily available to those who need them.

Presentation of the main messages from the forum (20 minutes), followed by short interventions from Ministers and a representative of the 10-member group, followed by interventions from the floor.
