韓시민단체 소성리주민 평화메시지 전해

김종훈 민중당 상임대표는 22일 오후 유엔을 방문해 마리 야마시타 유엔 정무국 아태국장을 만나 한반도 평화와 통일을 염원(念願)하며 유엔에 보내는 한국 민중들의 메시지를 전하고, 남북정상회담과 북미정상회담 국면에서 유엔의 적극적인 역할을 요청했다.
김 상임대표는 “스웨덴은 북한의 제재 속에서도 한반도 문제를 평화적으로 해결하려고 노력했다. 제재를 넘어 대화를 지속할 수 있도록 유엔이 적극 역할을 해 달라”라고 당부했다.
야마시타 유엔 정무국 아태국장은 “우리도 동의한다. 제재에는 유엔 안보리에서 결정한 것이고 우리 정치부에서 평화적으로 해결하기를 원한다. 유엔 사무총장도 그렇게 해결하길 원한다”고 밝혔다.
김 상임대표는 이창복 6.15공동선언실천 남측위원회 상임의장, 김명환 민주노총 위원장, 김주영 한국노총 위원장, 박행덕 전국농민회총연맹 의장, 김순애 전국여성농민회총연합 회장, 최영찬 민주노점상전국연합 위원장, 한충목 한국진보연대 공동상임대표, 사드배치반대 김천시민대책위원회, 사드배치반대 대구경북대책위원회(대구경북지역 52개 시민사회단체), 사드철회 성주주민대책위원회의 소성리 주민들이 직접 쓴 평화메시지를 유엔에 전했다.
이어 김종훈 의원은 오후 6시 30분 뉴욕대 동아시아학과와 민중당 뉴욕연대가 공동 주최한 뉴욕대 강연행사에 참석, ‘갈림길에 선 한반도: 전쟁, 평화, 그리고 미래’라는 주제의 연설을 했다. 민중당 방미 대표단은 강연회가 끝난 뒤 다음날 새벽 한국으로 귀국했다.

Ahead of the North-South and U.S.-North Korea summits, an atmosphere of peace is proliferating on the Korean peninsula. Now, more than ever, all hostile acts must be halted for the sake of peace. We urge the United Nations be a peacemaker and facilitate the normalization of relations between the U.S. and North Korea and the abandonment of hostile policies against North Korea.

남북, 북미 정상회담을 앞두고 한반도에 평화의 분위기가 확산되고 있습니다. 지금은 그 어느 때보다 평화를 위해 모든 적대행위는 중단되어야 합니다. 대북적대정책을 폐기하고 북미관계 정상화를 위해 UN의 평화적 역할을 촉구합니다.

We are directly impacted by the crisis on the Korean peninsula, and North and South Korea are now moving rapidly to improve our relations and resolve the crisis. At a time when summit meetings between the two Koreas and between North Korea and the US are planned, it is not right for the sanctions against North Korea to continue. We urge the United Nations lift the sanctions against North Korea as part of halting all hostile acts for the sake of realizing peace and hope that you will support the Korean people’s efforts toward peace.

Peace is the goal and vision of all humanity. No one must suffer discrimination because of their color, religion or political belief.
Since the late 19th century, when Korea became an arena of struggle between the world’s powers, the Korean peninsula has often suffered due to foreign intervention, and its people have lived with the tragedy of national division. As the two Koreas have agreed to a summit meeting, we hope the farmers of North and South will soon be able to engage in mutual exchange and cooperation in order to adopt a North-South joint agricultural plan and share agricultural technology, seeds and machinery. Our nation’s history is a thousand years old, and division has only been seventy years. We hope for unification in the agricultural sector, and the farmers will do our part for exchange and cooperation on the road to unification.

평화는 인류의 이상이며 목표입니다.
누구도 종교의 차이, 피부색의 차이, 정치사상의 차이로 차별받아서는 안 됩니다.
한반도(조선반도) 남북은 열강의 각축장이 된 19세기 후반 이후 줄곧 외세에 의해 고통 받아 왔으며 분단의 상처를 안고 살았습니다. 극적으로 남북 정상회담 개최가 합의된 때 맞춰 남북의 농민은 상호 교류와 협력을 통해 남북공동식량계획을 수립하고 유무상통의 원칙에 의거해 농업기술과 종자, 농기계 등을 교류하길 희망합니다. 우리 민족사 최근 1,000년 동안 분단은 고작 70년 남짓입니다. 농업부터 통일되길 기대하고 그 길에서 농민은 교류협력에 최선을 다하겠습니다.

The women farmers of South Korea want more than anything to farm on a peaceful land without the threat of war. Since the Korean War, despite constant threats of war in a state of temporary ceasefire without a permanent peace treaty, women farmers across the country have hoped for peace and unification while toiling to put food on the nation’s tables.
We remember with fondness that some ten years ago, when there were dynamic people-to-people exchanges between North and South Korea, farmers of the North and South held joint sports events where we drummed together and imagined a unified world. The women farmers of South Korea enthusiastically applaud the announcement of the historic North-South summit and the first US-North Korea summit. We hope this thawing will lead to an opening in North-South reconciliation and bring permanent peace on the Korean peninsula. We hope that the first US-North Korea summit since Korea’s division will put forth a roadmap for normalization between the two countries and the denuclearization of the peninsula, as well as the realization of a Peace Agreement for a permanent peace system in Korea.
We believe this peaceful message is in line with the world’s wish for peace. We hope the United Nations and countries around the world will make a unified effort to enable the Korean peninsula, the only remaining divided nation, to finally end the cold war and advance toward peace and reunification.

한국의 여성농민들은 전쟁의 위기가 없는 평화로운 땅에서 안심하고 농사 지을 수 있기를 간절하게 바랍니다.
우리는 한국 전쟁 이후 종전이 아닌 정전협정의 상태에서 매년 반복되는 전쟁의 위기를 겪으면서도 평화와 통일을 염원하며 국민들의 안전한 먹거리를 생산하기 위해 전국 각지에서 힘겨운 농사를 짓고 있습니다.
십여 년 전 남과 북의 민간교류가 활발하던 시기에 남과 북의 농민들이 만나 체육행사도 하고 풍물도 치면서 감동적인 한마당을 통해 통일된 세상을 경험했던 기억이 새롭습니다.
우리 여성농민들은 역사적인 남북정상회담과 첫 북미정상회담 합의를 뜨겁게 환영하며 이 대화국면이 남북화해의 물꼬를 열고 우리 땅 한반도에 항구적인 평화가 정착되는 계기가 되기를 진심으로 바랍니다. 분단 이후 최초로 열리는 북미정상회담에서 북미관계 정상화를 위한 북미수교와 한반도 비핵화 실현, 그리고 한반도 평화체제 구축을 위한 평화협정 체결의 로드맵이 제시되길 기대합니다.
한국 여성농민들의 평화메시지가 전 세계인들의 평화를 염원하는 기대와도 맞닿아 있다고 믿습니다. 지구상의 유일한 분단국가인 한반도가 냉전을 끝내고 평화 통일의 길로 나아갈 수 있도록 세계 각국이 힘써 주기를 바랍니다.

The greatest victims of the threat of war on the Korean peninsula are South Korea’s urban poor. Peace on the Korean peninsula is the key for survival for the poor and street vendors. We welcome the US-North Korean summit and wish for a Korean peninsula and a world free from war.

Spring is around the corner on the Korean peninsula. The hard-achieved summit meetings between the North and South and between North Korea and the United States must lay the foundation for a stable peace system on the Korean peninsula. We must halt all acts of aggression. We must halt the US-South Korean war exercises and the unilateral sanctions, as well as normalize relations between the United States and North Korea, and I sincerely hope for a stable peace system on the Korean peninsula and independent unification.

어렵게 조성된 남북, 북미정상회담은 한반도의 공고한 평화체제 구축의 디딤돌을 만들어야 합니다. 무엇보다 우선, 대북적대행위를 중단해야 합니다. 한미연합 군사훈련을 중단하고, 일방적인 대북제재 또한 중단하면서 남북, 북미간 관계정상화를 이뤄내어, 한반도의 공고한 평화체제, 남과 북의 자주적 평화통일이 이뤄지기를 간절히 기원합니다.
○ Change-Bok Lee, President, Southern Committee to Implement the June 15 Joint Declaration
The peace talks between the US and North Korea must lay the foundation for the establishment of a peace system on the Korean peninsula. As North Korea has declared that it would stop all nuclear and missile tests as long as talks continue, the US should, in kind, stop its unilateral sanctions and military threats, such as the deployment of strategic assets and large-scale war exercises, and fully engage to normalize relations with North Korea and establish a peace system. The talks should lead to concrete steps to improve relations between the two Koreas and solidify peace on the peninsula.
We hope a successful South-North summit meeting will lead to the resumption of inter-Korean cooperation and collaboration on humanitarian issues such as reunions of divided families, as well as dynamic cross-border exchanges between various sectors.

북미간 평화협상 개시로 한반도 평화체제 구축의 길을 크게 열어야 한다!
북측이 대화가 진행되는 기간 중에 핵, 미사일 시험을 하지 않을 것임을 밝힌 만큼, 미국 정부는 일방적인 대북제재와 전략자산전개, 대규모 전쟁연습 등 대북 군사적 위협을 중단하고 북미관계 정상화와 평화체제 구축을 위한 협상에 전면적으로 나서야 한다.
남북관계 개선, 한반도 평화를 향한 구체적인 조치들도 이어져야 할 것이다. 남북정상회담의 성과적 개최와 더불어, 이전 정부 시절에 부당하게 중단된 남북간 협력사업들을 재개하고 이산가족 상봉을 비롯한 인도적 문제의 해결, 각계각층 다방면의 교류를 확대해 가는 적극적인 조치가 이어지기를 기대한다.

THAAD is a monstrous weapon system that torments the Korean people. Only peaceful reunification can defend our people. Withdraw the THAAD system! Weapons cannot bring peace. Withdraw THAAD as it undermines peace on the Korean peninsula.

The South Korean people oppose the THAAD system as it threatens the security and peace of Northeast Asia and the Korean peninsula. We urge the United Nations take just action for a peaceful Korean peninsula.

○ Seongju Residents Task Force for Withdrawal of the THAAD System in Soseongri
We urge the United Nations redouble its efforts for a world free from war, military threats and nuclear weapons. We hope for an end to violence by superpowers—such as the forceful deployment of an X-band radar and THAAD launchers near the homes of 2000 residents. People should matter first.
