‘김정은셀카’ 싱가포르 장관 시선집중

북미회담 직전 북한 방문도

북한의 김정은국무위원장과 깜짝 셀피(셀카)로 싱가포르 비비안 발라크리쉬난 외교부 장관이 주목(注目)을 받고 있다.

발라크리쉬난 장관은 지난 11일 김정은위원장을 대동한 가운데 싱가포르 식물원 등을 방문하면서 함께 찍은 셀피를 자신의 페이스북에 올려 세계적인 이목(耳目)을 모았다. 김정은위원장의 야간 시찰도 놀랄 일이었지만 김위원장이 셀피에 응한 것도 파격중의 파격이었기 때문이다.

셀피가 페북에 오르자 사람들은 “김위원장이 난생 처음 셀피를 찍었을 것” “그동안 김위원장을 만난 사람들은 왜 이런 사진을 찍을 생각을 못했을까” “혹시 찍었어도 못올린게 아닐까” 등등의 의견을 올렸다.

발라크리쉬난 장관의 페이스북은 12일 현재 1만2천여명이 ‘좋아요’를 눌렀고 공유만 3900명에 이르는 등 폭발적인 관심을 끌고 있다.

발라크리쉬난 장관은 최근 북한을 공식 방문하고 돌아왔다. 북미회담 장소가 싱가포르로 결정된 이후 회담 준비를 하기 위했던 것으로 보인다. 방북 기간동안 김영남 국가수반과 리용호 외상 등과 면담한 그는 페이스북에 평양의 만경대와 혁명열사박물관 등을 방문한 사진들을 올렸다.

특히 지하철에 탑승해 평양 시민들과 함께 앉은 사진을 올리고 “평양의 지하철은 1960년대 세워졌으며 세계에서 가장 깊은 곳을 달린다”고 소개하기도 했다.

1961년생인 발라크리쉬난은 타미르인 아버지와 중국인 어머니 사이에서 태어났다. 싱가포르 국립대학에서 대통령장학금을 받고 대학시절엔 약학을 전공했다. 안과학으로 박사학위를 받았고 에딘버러 왕립 외과대학 교수로도 재직했다. 이후 싱가포르 국립대학 부교수와 싱가포르 종합병원 최고경영자로도 재직했다.

그는 2001년 총선에서 국민행동당(PAP) 소속으로 당선되며 정계에 입문했다. 이듬해 국가개발부 차관에 임명됐고 2004년엔 상공자원부 수석장관에 임명됐다. 2011년에 환경부 장관을 맡았고 2015년 총선후에 외교장관에 임명돼 오늘에 이르고 있다. 부인 조이 발라크리쉬난과의 사이에 1녀3남을 두고 있다.

Vivian Balakrishnan

Vivian Balakrishnan (born 25 January 1961), FRCS, is the Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs and a member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP). He is also the Minister-in-charge of the Smart Nation Programme Office.[2] He has previously held appointments in the Singapore Cabinet as Minister for Environment and Water Resources and Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, as well as the Second Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, and Trade and Industry. In 2002, Balakrishnan was appointed a Minister of State at the Ministry of National Development, and the Chairman of the Remaking Singapore Committee. He was also the Chairman of the Young PAP from 2004 to 2008. He is a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency.

Balakrishnan studied medicine at the National University of Singapore on a President's Scholarship. He later pursued postgraduate education in ophthalmology and was admitted as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He was appointed as an associate professor at the National University of Singapore and became the medical director of Singapore National Eye Centre. He was also the chief executive of Singapore General Hospital. Prior to the commencement of his political career, he served as the commanding officer of second Combat Support Hospital of the Singapore Armed Forces.

His team was elected uncontested during his first and second candidacy for the Parliament at Holland-Bukit Panjang GRC and Holland-Bukit Timah GRC respectively. In the 2015 general election, Balakrishnan's team, including Liang Eng Hwa, Christopher de Souza and Sim Ann, defeated the opposing team from Singapore Democratic Party with 66.62% of the votes. He joined the cabinet on 12 August 2004 when Brigadier-General Lee Hsien Loong was sworn in as Singapore's 3rd Prime Minister. (www.en.wikipedia.org)
