Going beyond the ethnic background while retaining our core value is the ideal for any and every American. Nowadays, each one of us belongs on the world stage. It's up to each one of us how far we can go on that stage. It is a long, and demanding journey, at the same time, interesting, wonderful, rewarding task. This writing is a part of that task. - Dr. Myong D. Lee

The Theme of 2013, Nice guys eventually Win

±Û¾´ÀÌ : ÀÌ¸íµ¿ ³¯Â¥ : 2012-11-30 (±Ý) 13:23:49

The world has been too tough a place to just blurt out the cliche, "The good guys finish first." It has always been more like, "The good guys don't finish first."

Looking at the people, the events, the world, and the history, there is, after all, hope. The world is, slowly and very painfully, taking the inexorable step toward civil rights and human rights.

Greedy dictators, fanatic fundamentalists, feudal ruling class, and clueless bigots are clearly on their way out. This, of course, includes the kings. The kings!

It is happening in every country in the world. The only difference is where in the inexorable step they are struggling in. It is part of our nature that to learn anything we usually have to pay dearly for it. Some parts of the world is going though very tough times, indeed, cutting the head off with chainsaw tough. Tough but expected, really no surprise.

Korea went through some very tough times, no need to explain. What hit my heart is my cousin quoting her grandmother after the War, "Everybody went crazy, they have all lost their mind." The horrendous tragedy, destruction, and chaos also created an environment where Koreans can really take off. It was much easier to get out of the yoke of feudal mentality, and peculiar superstitions than, for instance, Japan and China. They seem to struggle more and longer with their old orders.

We all have to pay for progress one way or another; the leader's job is the people pay for it as little as possible. When you are in the way of the human progress, you should get out of the way as soon as possible. I can think of many guys this applies to. They will be eventually removed, voluntarily, or by chainsaw. The wish is the people don't have to go through the utter tragedy, the man-made tragedy.

It is clear we are facing new problems, and particular challenges in the 21st century. How to provide meaningful jobs for everybody in the automating new economy, clean and efficient energy, climate change and management of the living conditions, education and evolving image of the humanity are only some of the immediate issues we have to find the solutions for.

The solutions require the best expertise and relentless hard thinking. We will find the solutions and implement them. They will be based on civil rights and human rights at the very foundation. I know the nice guys eventually win. It is going to be O.K.
